Saunf (noun.) in English aniseed, is highly aromatic and flavoursome dried fennel seeds, having marvellous flavours. Indian restaurants offer sugar-coated fennel seeds to every guest after a meal as a mouth freshener and herbal digestive.
The seeds are considered to be a superfood, commonly found in Indian culture and a staple in every Indian household. Fennel seeds belong to the parsley family. It provides marvellous flavours and is frequently used in Indian cooking. Fennel seeds are also used as a condiment in cheese spreads, biriyani, pilau rice, sweets and as a savoury spice found in readymade masala powders.
