Methi (noun.) or enugreek, scientific name Trigonella foenum graecum is an annual herb that is a native to southern Europe and Asia. It is an erect herb that has white flowers and hard, yellowish-brown and angular seeds having slightly sweet, nutty flavour. It is considered to be a cross between celery and maple.
Fenugreek seeds and leaves are strongly aromatic and flavourful. Seeds are bitter but lose their bitterness if roasted. The seeds are part of the popular Garam Masala (or curry powders) used in Indian cuisine. The dried leaves are used in many Punjabi tadka and makhani dishes.
