Lavang - The English word for Lavang is Cloves. It is a herb found in Biryani dishes and is used to flavour pilau rice. Clove is both a savoury and sweet spice. It has flower buds of the clove tree, an evergreen also known as Syzygium aromaticum. Found in both whole and ground forms, this versatile spice can be used to season pot roasts, add flavour to hot beverages, and bring spicy warmth to cookies and cakes.
Cloves are grown in India and Madagascar and one can find ground cinnamon, cloves and cardamom in several Indian curries. These are often combined in a pumpkin pie blend. It is an ingredient of curry powder, widely used in Indian cooking and also in the Indian spice blend garam masala.
