Almonds paste, often used in confectioneries, cakes, pastries and Indian karahi curry or murgh curry, grows on trees. The perfect climate for it to grow can be found in the Mediterranean countries like Greece, Morocco, Spain, Italy and Tunisia where you get mild wet winters and hot dry summer. However, 80 per cent of the world’s almonds come from California.
It is also produced for local use in Spain, Italy, Australia and the Middle East. In the US, it is produced for commercial purposes where the harvests are enough to feed the nation and export to other countries. Germany, Japan and the Netherlands are the biggest importers of almonds.
