What is roti ?

Roti or chapati is a flatbread, made from whole wheat flour and water. It is widely used as a staple in the Indian subcontinent. In North India, people eat roti every day during the three meals of the day.

One can add salt or ghee(clarified butter) as per their taste but the basic roti is made without any additional ingredients except wheat flour. Small parts of dough are rolled and flatted on a solid base, and then, heated on both sides in a pan (or tawa – flat pan).

Freshly cooked roti can be served with vegetable curry or dals. You can add butter on hot roti while serving it with vegetable curries and salads. Making a perfect roti require great skill to get a consistent dough and the perfect circle shape of the rolled dough.
